Buying Disposable PPE from Turkey: A Buyer's Guide for Food Facilities and Distributors
7 October 2026 · 4 min read · Disponord
How to source bulk disposable PPE from a Turkish manufacturer: specs to send, samples, packaging, Incoterms, documents and lead times for food processors.

Disposable hygiene PPE (hair nets, aprons, shoe covers, sleeves, coveralls) is a repeat-order category. Facilities consume it constantly, so the real value of a supplier is consistency, packaging and delivery reliability, not a one-off low price. Turkey is a practical source for buyers in Europe, the Middle East and the Gulf because of its production base, its proximity to those markets and short transit times. This guide explains how to run a sourcing enquiry efficiently.
Why source from Turkey
- Distance: road and sea freight reach southern and central Europe, the Levant, Iraq and the Gulf considerably faster than shipments from the Far East.
- Smaller, more flexible runs: standard hygiene items are produced in volume, and colour, size or pack changes are easier to discuss than with very large producers.
- Trade framework: Turkey and the EU operate a customs union for industrial goods, which simplifies the paperwork for many EU shipments compared with other origins. Confirm the exact certificate and duty position with your customs broker for your own route.
Step 1: Define the specification before you ask for prices
Most quote delays come from incomplete enquiries. For each item, send:
| Item | What to specify |
|---|---|
| Hair net, bouffant cap | Material (non-woven), size, colour, single or double elastic |
| Beard cover | Material, size, loop type, colour |
| Apron | PE thickness (micron) or non-woven weight, length, width, colour |
| Shoe or boot cover | Material, thickness, size, elastic type, sole if any |
| Sleeve cover | Material, length, elastic ends, colour |
| Coverall, gown | Fabric and weight (g/m²), hood or hoodless, closure, size range |
Add the application (meat, dairy, seafood, bakery, visitors), expected monthly consumption and delivery destination. The more concrete the specification, the faster and more accurate the quotation.
Step 2: Ask for samples and check what matters
Request samples of each item and test them in your own process, not just on a table:
- Does the apron tear when a worker moves arms across the body?
- Does the shoe cover stay on a full walk across a wet floor?
- Do the elastic loops hold without cutting into the skin?
- Is the colour consistent with your zone code?
- Does the carton open cleanly, with items that dispense easily?
Check the carton markings, the quantity per pack and the consistency from carton to carton, because variation between batches is the real risk in repeat supply.
Step 3: Agree packaging and labelling
Packaging affects handling cost as much as the product does. Agree:
- Pieces per bag and bags per carton, sized for your dispensers and storage.
- Carton dimensions and weight, so pallet loading is efficient.
- Carton labelling: product name, specification, quantity and batch reference.
- Palletisation and wrapping for the transport mode.
Step 4: Choose the Incoterm
Common choices for this kind of shipment:
| Incoterm | Meaning in practice |
|---|---|
| EXW | You collect from the supplier's premises and handle export clearance and freight |
| FCA / FOB | Supplier clears export and loads the goods; you arrange main carriage |
| CFR / CIF | Supplier arranges and pays sea freight (and insurance for CIF) to your port |
| DAP | Supplier delivers to your named place, import clearance stays with you |
For a first order, many buyers prefer a delivered term (DAP or CFR) so freight is quoted in a single price. For repeat volume, FCA or FOB with your own forwarder is often cheaper.
Step 5: Documents to expect
A typical export shipment is accompanied by a commercial invoice, packing list and, depending on destination, a certificate of origin and the relevant movement or preference certificate. Ask in advance which documents your customs authority needs, and confirm the tariff classification of each item with your broker before the first order, since classification differs between plastic and non-woven garments and caps.
Step 6: Lead time
Production and shipping lead times depend on the item, the quantity and any custom colours, sizes or printed packaging. Confirm the lead time in writing with the supplier before you place the order, and plan your reorder point so you reorder before you run low, not after.
A short checklist for any supplier
- Is the specification confirmed in writing, including thickness or weight?
- Have you tested samples in your own process?
- Are packaging, carton quantity and labelling agreed?
- Are Incoterm, documents and lead time confirmed?
- Is there a plan for repeat orders and consistent batches?

Frequently asked questions
- What is the minimum order quantity?
- It depends on the item and how much customisation you need. Standard items are supplied by carton and pallet; ask for the MOQ for your specific product when you request a quote.
- Can I order a mixed pallet?
- Mixed orders of different PPE items are usually possible, which suits facilities that need hair nets, aprons and shoe covers together.
- How long does delivery take?
- Lead time depends on the item, quantity and any customisation, and transit time then depends on destination and transport mode. Ask for a confirmed lead time with your quotation.
- Do you ship to Iraq, the Gulf and Europe?
- Yes. Delivered terms or ex-works with your own forwarder are both possible depending on the route.
